About the Artist

It seems I've always been interested in art and design, at least as far back as junior high school. I majored in art history and oil painting my final year at Glendale Commuity College, where one of my paintings was accepted in to the year-end art show on campus. After graduation from community college, my life took a meandering course during which I didn't touch a paint brush for many many years, although I remained very interested in art. Fast forward to 2019, and the arrival of COVID-19. Everyone was encouraged to remain at home. Looking for something to do there, I decided to paint.... again...using acrylics instead of oils.
I am often asked to describe my "style". I'm not sure I have a particular style. Sometimes it is semi-abstract and graphic, occasionally geometric, and perhaps a bit architectural. There have been a number of artistic influences on it. A few years ago I "discovered" the works of a group of American artists collectively known as the Precisionists..... Charles Demuth (1883-1935), Charles Sheeler (1893-1965), and Edmund Lewandowski (1914-1998).... who used lines and geometric shapes to create a static interpretation of modern industrial America in the early 20th Century. Often the interplay of lines, geometric shapes and strong colors continue to be the "style"of my paintings...but not exclusively.
I currently live with my family in Santa Cruz, California, where I enjoy each day looking at the magnificent Monterey Bay.
